At Richard Lucas Chevrolet, we’re your go-to New Jersey Chevy dealer. Our selection includes all of your favorite models from this iconic manufacturer. Chevy has been a household name for many decades and was one of America’s first automobile manufacturers over a century ago, ultimately setting the stage for a plethora of companies to follow suit. This longevity is partly due to Chevy’s ability to stay one step ahead of the competition, continually innovating and pushing the limits of what is possible. The concept of impossibility is one that manufacturers such as Chevy are stretching thin every year with new and exciting features to couple with their new automobiles. Innovation is one of the keys to success in this ever-evolving industry. Simply put, nobody knows this better than Chevy.
So, how does a manufacturer with over a hundred years of experience under its belt stay relevant in a modern-day market? The answer to this question can be a tad complex. Chevy has been a continuous driving force in the industry, often stepping into uncharted territories or evolving upon pre-existing concepts. Most recently, many manufacturers have begun exploring the trend of hybrid or fully electric models, two concepts that have grown in popularity as they have become more feasible to manufacture. Chevy has begun playing their hand in the electric vehicle (EV) market with the likes of the popular Chevy Bolt EV. However, most excitingly is the speculation that shows all signs pointing towards a number of new EV Chevy models that will be arriving in the not too distant future.
The Current Offering: The Chevy Bolt EV
As previously stated, there is currently one electric vehicle that Chevy has on the sales floor with more to follow. The Chevy Bolt EV had plenty of pre-release hype surrounding its launch as the first electric vehicle from a manufacturer as iconic as Chevy was met with massive media coverage. Unsurprisingly, the Chevy Bolt EV was an instant success and a sign of what’s to come from this manufacturer sooner than later. The most current of the lineup is the new 2021 Chevy Bolt EV, which starts at an MSRP of $36,500 for the base LT model. For the most part, the base trim includes all of the essentials and a few luxurious amenities without requiring drivers to shell out extra money.
The Premier is the next and last trim for the 2021 Chevy Bolt EV. It has a strong focus on luxury with features such as a premium audio system, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with heating elements, and a host of safety features and exterior enhancements, to name a few features. Both trims feature the same EV powertrain, meaning drivers who decide to go for the base model will not have limited capabilities in any way. The Premier’s additions are certainly well warranted, but Chevy deserves praise for a feature-rich base model that will likely attract more drivers than it otherwise would have.
The Chevy Bolt EV can properly demonstrate what kind of a difference you can expect from an exclusively electric vehicle when compared to traditional gasoline or diesel-powered engines. Drivers will be amazed by the Chevy Bolt EV’s ample power and completely floored by its fuel economy ratings. As is the case with EV vehicles, the Chevy Bolt EV swaps out the regular engine for a lithium-ion battery and an electric motor. The battery inside of the Chevy Bolt EV provides 66-kWh of electricity, which then works in tandem with the electric motor to help the vehicle produce an excellent 200 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque.
What’s the most impressive, however, is the aforementioned fuel-economy ratings, which vastly outperforms any gasoline or diesel-powered engine that Chevy offers. Firstly, EV vehicles are not powered by fuel, with drivers charging their vehicles typically at home when not in use. Charging your EV vehicle at home is highly recommended as this will save you a tremendous amount of money in the long run and no more time-consuming gas station visits. Although the official EPA-estimated ratings for the 2021 Chevy Bolt EV have yet to be disclosed, it’s unlikely they will be any different from the 127 MPGe city, 108 MPGe highway, and 259 miles on a single charge that was offered by the 2020 model.
Rumor Mill: Upcoming Chevy EV Vehicles
While the Chevy Bolt EV has seen significant success in its time on the market, Chevy isn’t done yet and has confirmed the existence of a few upcoming EV models, albeit with scarce details. Starting with a new Bolt model that will accompany the pre-existing lineup, Chevy is currently working on a larger Bolt EUV that will change the size of the vehicle to match a compact SUV. Details have been rather thin on this new EUV Bolt, but SUV fans will be happy to hear that Chevy has also confirmed production on a larger electric SUV that will soon be coming down the line.
Perhaps what Chevy drivers were most excited to hear about is the existence of an EV truck that Chevy will begin producing. EV trucks are a tricky thing to get right, but we’ve seen examples of upcoming vehicles from other manufacturers that prove the market is ready for battery-powered pickups. It’s highly speculated that within the next five years, and especially within the next decade, we will be witnessing a vastly different automotive industry, and these EV trucks are going to be there front and center. Many drivers are anticipating the official reveal of the EV Chevy truck, and we speculate it’s going to be a game-changer for sure.
The prospect of towing heavy cargo for long distances on a single charge is something that was unimaginable not too long ago, but today it is on the verge of becoming a reality. Once these electric trucks are widely available, we imagine there will be plenty of drivers who are willing to make the switch. Not only will this likely hold true for the Chevy EV Truck, but the aforementioned EV SUV, Bolt EUV, and just about any electric vehicle that Chevy announces from this point onwards.
