What helps a used Chevy Silverado 1500 stand out from the competition is its innovative entertainment, safety, and technology. Innovation has been accomplished in many different ways over the last century, with all kinds of advancements. With all of this change, one thing remains abundantly clear, the automotive industry has never slowed down, and innovation is what moves us forward. If you’re planning on purchasing a used Silverado 1500, you’ll not only have a highly performant truck; you’ll also be getting an incredible value. For years, the Silverado 1500 has been a powerful truck. While this means that your mileage may vary when perusing for a pre-owned offering, the result will always be exceptional. Providing drivers with enough performance for work and family adventures is one thing, but part of innovation is keeping up with the trends.

Entertainment & Convenience Co-Exist
Today’s trends surround the modern-day digital age. One way that manufacturers have implemented more tech-centric features into their vehicles is through the use of infotainment systems. While the prospect of an infotainment system is nothing particularly new, manufacturers are consistently improving upon the idea on an annual basis. When you’re shopping for a used Chevy Silverado 1500, and you’re particularly interested in obtaining an entry-level infotainment system, we recommend you start with the 2014 Silverado 1500. Although this model didn’t come standard with infotainment system, certain variations can be found with one featuring either a 4 or 8-inch display, albeit with relatively basic functions by today’s standards.
The following year, the 4-inch screen from the year prior became a standard integration, and for the first time, drivers could opt for a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. Fitting a vehicle with a hotspot back in 2015 wasn’t exactly commonplace yet, thus allowing Chevy to grant the Silverado 1500 a place among other trailblazers on the market. Over the past five years, the reasoning to own a vehicle with an integrated hotspot has become greater than ever. With a hotspot equipped into your Silverado 1500, your passengers can connect their wireless devices directly to the vehicle’s onboard internet connection. Once they’re connected, they’ll be streaming their favorite music, movies, and web content on a network that’s not only fast but secure and reliable as well. With a world of entertainment at your passengers’ fingertips, no longer will you hear the age-old saying, “are we there yet?” During your shopping, you’ll be able to find a used Silverado with a Wi-Fi hotspot for models produced in 2015 and onwards as the hotspot remains an available option today.

It wasn’t until the 2018 Silverado 1500 was released when the lineup would swap out the standard 4-inch screen for a 7-inch touchscreen. This 7-inch screen had been an available upgrade for the lineup a year prior but had now become the standard offering. Along with this new screen, the lineup received a rearview camera that was included on each trim to assist drivers when reversing. Those looking to enhance their infotainment experience have the option of an available 8-inch screen to replace the 7-inch. Additionally, the 2018 Silverado 1500 offered an available wireless phone charger along with an available premium audio system courtesy of Bose. This upgraded audio system will fill your cabin with seven powerful speakers that provide crystal-clear audio and completely immerse you into your favorite songs.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Compatibility
We’re now at a point in time where a significant portion of the population has a smartphone in their pocket at all times. However, to cater to this technology that billions of people own, manufacturers have teamed up with tech-giants Apple and Google to fill in the blanks. For some years now, infotainment centers such as the ones found in the Chevy Silverado 1500 have started housing software created by Apple and Google, these being Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Starting with the 2016 Silverado 1500, these entertainment systems became available upgrades to the lineup’s pre-existing infotainment system. This is how it remained for the 2017 and 2018 model years until both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto had become standard in the lineup from 2019 onwards.
As to why you should consider Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is a simple answer, it’s the future of on-road connectivity. If you own an Apple device such as the iPhone 5 onwards, or one of many compatible Android devices, setup is hassle-free. Once you’ve connected your device, your infotainment center will be transformed into something a little more reminiscent of your smartphone’s interface. From here, you can manage your apps and even install new ones through the dedicated app stores, although the standard functions are equally as noteworthy. For starters, you can make phone calls and even send text messages without ever taking your hands off the wheel. This is done through voice-activation commands that work in tandem with your phone’s digital assistant, whether it be Siri or Google Assistant. You may also check the weather, get turn-by-turn directions with live traffic updates, along with full access to your music library.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto have completely revolutionized the way we combine our everyday tech with our everyday vehicles. If you’re looking to purchase a used Silverado 1500, consider getting one with these features.
What About the Performance?
Of course, a truck is only as good as the powertrain it runs on. The Silverado 1500 not only has a powerful array of engines available today, but this has been the case for several years. Purchasing an older Silverado 1500 doesn’t detract from the vehicle’s capabilities as the same arrangement of engines can be found between the model years of 2014 and 2019. One exception is an additional turbocharged engine that was added to the lineup in 2019, while the other is the transmissions these engines were paired with. Serving as the long-standing base engine is a 4.3L V6 engine that produces 285 hp and 305 lb-ft of torque. Since this engine’s introduction to the lineup, it historically has been paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
If you’re looking for some extra power, then opting for the 5.3L V8 is a great option with its 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. When this engine was first offered in 2014, it was paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission much like the V6. Eventually, this engine was offered with an available 8-speed automatic transmission instead. The last available V8 in the lineup is a 6.2L V8 that produces an impressive 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. This is roughly a 47% increase to horsepower and a 50.8% increase to torque output over the standard V6. Originally coming paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission in 2014, you’ll find this engine paired to either an 8-speed or 10-speed automatic on newer models.
Lastly, a turbocharged 2.7L 4-cylinder was introduced into the lineup in 2019 and produces 310 hp and 348 lb-ft of torque. Should you opt for this engine, it’ll come paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. All of these engines help to make up an impressive amount of power for the Silverado 1500 regardless of which model year you purchase.
