The future of the automotive industry is inevitably heading towards the full adoption of electric vehicle (EV) technology in the coming years. Though this change may yet take some time to happen, it is not too bold to say that EVs are the vehicles of the future. Rising energy costs, environmental concerns, and climate change have all been motivating factors driving the industry to make a change for the better and cut back on our current dependence on limited fossil fuels. New offerings, like the Chevy EV current and future lineup, are showing us how much the industry is trying to fundamentally change. The adoption of more charging stations, green incentives, new laws, and brand plans to replace the current lineups with electric versions all point to a future where vehicles run a lot differently from how they do now.

What many people don’t know is that electric vehicles are not a “new” technology. At the dawn of the automotive era, the internal combustion gasoline engine was not the only option available to motorists. In addition to the diesel engine that ran on oil and did not rely on internal combustion, there were automakers who built cars using electricity and steam power. For example, President William Howard Taft’s wife Helen drove a 1912 Baker Electric Victoria. However, those first electric cars didn’t hold much charge in their batteries and were rather slow, like an electric golf cart. Today’s EVs have powerful batteries that are easily recharged and can propel a vehicle at speeds that rival those of performance sports cars. This is a case of the technology advancing as a result of a need, and EVs are only going to become more appealing for the average driver.

Chevy Creates Affordable EVs for Everyday Drivers

One of the biggest complaints about EVs has been their affordability. While many folks may be wowed by the EVs produced by other automakers, the biggest shock they may feel is not from the electricity powering those EVs but from looking at the sticker price for those vehicles. This is usually the case with any new technologies. The first personal computers and cellphones were incredibly expensive, leaving only the wealthy as the primary early adopters of those technologies. This was the same case with EVs. Most EVs on the market today are expensive and outside the price range of average, everyday drivers. While they are wonderful vehicles, they are just not cost-

Fortunately for us, one of the companies at the forefront of EV technology has been Chevrolet. Since the introduction of the Chevy Volt in 2011, this great American automaker has been manufacturing, marketing, and distributing affordable EVs to the public. The Volt has a conventional sedan appearance, but sometimes looks can fool you.

Under the hood and chassis of the Volt is a series hybrid powertrain. A conventional engine with a reservoir located under the Volt’s hood. Behind the engine is a generator connected to a charger with a battery located near the rear seats. In the back is a converter hooked to an electric motor. At low speeds, the Volt relies solely on the electric motor running off the battery. At faster speeds, the gas engine provides part of the power and runs the generator to keep the battery charged. This not only provided exceptional fuel efficiency for the Volt but also significantly reduced the car’s greenhouse gas emissions.

Chevy built the Volt up until the 2019 model year, going through two model generations. The Volt was ultimately discontinued in favor of the fully electric Bolt EV. However, you can still find great deals on used Chevy Volts. The Chevy Bolt EV is a fully electric vehicle, and unlike First Lady Helen Taft’s electric car, the Chevy Bolt EV won’t be mistaken for a golf cart. For example, the 2021 Bolt EV is capable of going from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 6.5 seconds. That is some serious performance from an EV, courtesy of the 2021 Bolt EV’s 200 horsepower permanent magnet electric motor.

The Bolt EV was first introduced to the market in time for the 2017 model year. Chevy’s aim was to provide a fully electric vehicle that was not just roomy and fun to drive but also affordable so that everyday drivers could get an electric vehicle. What’s more, the Bolt EV can be charged anywhere with its convenient plug-in charger. You get all this in an EV that is at a reasonable price point.

However, Chevy isn't stopping with the Bolt EV. Now that the company has a grasp on electric vehicle technology and how it works in practicality, they are expanding the line even further. Offerings like the Bolt EUV, a larger electric SUV, and even an electric truck are all on the horizon as Chevy, and GM as a whole, work to change over all their vehicles to electric power. As EV technology gets better, it becomes easier to adapt, change, and make. Chevy is utilizing this fact by creating a boom of EVs at price points regular people will be able to afford.

There’s great news coming from the world’s largest automaker, and the team at Richard Lucas Chevrolet has all the details. The engineering team at General Motors has been hard at work developing the next generation of electric vehicles (EVs), and this round of newcomers and redesigned favorites are poised to launch a Chevy EV revolution. First on the list is the soon-to-be-released 2022 Chevy Bolt EV.

The newest 2022 Chevy Bolt EV is surprisingly affordable. The base 1LT starts at just $31,995 and includes plenty of standard equipment that makes it a tremendous value. The upper-end 2LT adds a few additional comforts, like leather-appointed seating and a power 8-way driver’s seat, and comes in at an equally affordable price of $35,195.

The 2022 Bolt EV sports a completely refreshed exterior look, highlighted by a new slanted nose with futuristic LED headlights and a brushed metal grille. Sculpted, aerodynamic lines elongate this subcompact’s stance. The Bolt EV looks equally striking from the rear, thanks to LED taillights and a roof design that finishes with a subtle rear spoiler.

Good looks aren’t the only calling card for the brand new Bolt EV; this car has serious range, too. One drawback of early electric vehicles was their limited driving range, but the 2022 Bolt EV can carry its passengers up to 259 miles on a single charge, eliminating range anxiety and adding to the list of reasons why it’s time to buy an EV. The Bolt EV also incorporates regenerative braking, a system that can charge the battery using the energy created from decelerating and braking. When buyers use the accelerator pedal to speed up and slow down (a capability only EVs can offer), that one-pedal driving action captures energy and transfers it to the battery.

Chevy also offers the Bolt with standard DC Fast Charging, which means it’s compatible with a 240-volt charger. There are currently over 4,000 Fast Charging stations across the country, and with every 2022 Bolt EV purchase, Chevy will cover the standard installation of a home 240-volt charger. Plus, with the growing popularity of electric vehicles, it is likely that even more Fast Charging stations will be added for public use.

The 2022 Chevy Bolt EV works best when drivers have access to vehicle diagnostics in real-time. That’s why Chevy put a lot of thought into designing a driver information center that’s visible prominently on the dash. Drivers can see battery life, driving history, and other important vehicle stats, so it’s possible to maintain the most efficient driving behavior without any guesswork.

Chevy Safety Assist, Chevrolet’s suite of driver-assist safety systems, is standard across the entire Bolt EV trim range. That’s great news for safety-conscious drivers because this set of sensor and camera-driven systems are designed to keep occupants safer while on the go. The system includes: Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, a Following Distance Indicator, IntelliBeam Auto High Beam Assist, a Forward Collision Alert, and Front Pedestrian Braking. In a nutshell, the system can sense the road ahead and around, alert the driver when it senses a potential hazard, and apply emergency braking to help avoid a collision.

Safety, good looks, and environmentally-responsible travel are all great reasons to look at the 2022 Chevy Bolt EV. We love that this little crossover is big on technology, but we also love that it sits at a price so many buyers can afford. The Bolt EV continues its reign as one of the most affordable EVs on the market, and with this new 2022 redesign, it adds an extra dash of style to its long list of desirable features.

2022 Chevy Bolt EUV

The team at Richard Lucas Chevrolet couldn’t be more excited for the highly anticipated arrival of the all-new 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV. This compact crossover is the newest addition to Chevy’s growing lineup of all-electric vehicles (EVs), and it’s getting a lot of pre-launch attention. Why? The size is just right, the range is extraordinary, and the battery technology is futuristic and extremely dependable.

The single largest concern among would-be EV buyers is the driving range. Chevy eliminates that concern with the 2022 Bolt EUV. With a range of up to 250 miles, you won’t have to worry about running out of battery. In addition, there are well over 4,000 DC Fast Charging stations located near highways all over the country, so even longer road trips are carefree.

The Bolt EUV is the first EV with available Super Cruise, General Motors’ hands-free cruise control system that uses sensors on compatible roads to keep the vehicle in its intended lane of travel driving at a predetermined, and safe, highway speed. That's right, with Super Cruise, you can take your hands off the wheel and let your car drive for you; however, you still need to keep your eyes on the road. Currently, there are over 200,000 miles of compatible highway in the U.S. and Canada, and that number continues to grow.

The 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV is long on good looks, too. Exterior lines are sculpted and precise, giving the Bolt EUV a sporty, futuristic curb appeal. Thanks to LED lighting, the front and rear ends continue that modern look and provide excellent night visibility in the process. Because the Bolt EUV is longer than the Bolt EV, it provides plenty of interior cabin space, so everyone is comfortable.

The charging process is as easy as plugging in your smartphone, and because Chevy is offering to cover the standard installation of a 240-volt charging station in every buyer’s home, it’s easier than ever to keep your EV fully charged. Chevy is also including a standard Dual Level Charge Cord that could eliminate the need for a special charging station. With this cord, you can easily choose between Level 1 and Level 2 charging, rather than having to fumble around with multiple different charging cords.

Chevy ups the luxury quotient in the 2022 Bolt EUV, with an available panoramic sunroof and heated and ventilated front seats that keep the driver and front passenger comfortable in any weather. There is seating for up to five, and rear seat passengers will be glad to know the Bolt EUV offers a roomy 39.1 inches of rear seat legroom.

Inside, the dash-mounted infotainment touchscreen delivers seamless smartphone integration, with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, giving drivers one-touch access to their favorite playlist or podcast. A wireless smartphone charger eliminates aggravating cords, and the in-dash driver information center displays real-time data on battery life and driving history.

With all this cutting-edge technology, the 2022 Bolt EUV still comes in at a reasonable starting price. The base LT starts at a very affordable $33,995 and includes the Chevy Safety Assist suite of driver-assist safety systems, along with a long list of standard equipment. The Bolt EUV Premier has a starting MSRP of $38,495 and adds leather-appointed seats and HD Surround Vision. For 2022, Chevy is releasing a special Bolt EUV Launch Edition. Starting at a sticker price of $43,495, the Launch Edition will feature special wheels and unique badging that differentiate it from the other Bolt EUV trims. The vehicle will also include a standard illuminated charge port and a panoramic sunroof.

Chevy’s push to build a fleet of all-electric vehicles is part of General Motors’ corporate goal of reaching a completely electric-powered model range by the year 2035. The Bolt EUV is a great addition to GM’s EV lineup because of its highly desirable size and surprising affordability. The range is always critical for EV buyers, and thanks to the Bolt EUV’s impressive 250-mile driving range, concerns about distance are a thing of the past.

EVS ARE THE FUTURE

Fully electric vehicles are part of our future, and that part is becoming easier to obtain every day. EVs are a great solution to a very real issue. In switching to EVs, we will reduce our dependence on oil while improving the environment. The first EVs to hit the market did a good job of addressing these issues but were priced at a point where only the wealthiest individuals could afford to make the transition from conventional gas-powered cars.

Fortunately, Chevy has taken the initiative to produce affordable EVs for everyday drivers, starting with the Volt and continuing with the Bolt EV and other exciting models. For many of us, the future is now as gas prices continue to fluctuate upwards and Chevy continues to produce more affordable EVs. Come visit our dealership and let us show you why your next brand new chevy vehicle should be an affordable Chevy EV.
